Prato is known for innovative yarns and fabrics - know-how example and Made in Italy pride - which world fashion uses as inspiration for the collections.
The creativity of Prato people fulfils itself in fashion and gets inspiration from art. The most evident expression of this inseparable pair is represented in two primary museums of the city: the Textile Museum and the Contemporary Art Centre Luigi Pecci, engines of cultural life.
The Textile Museum, expression of the city textile history, is located in a building that is a remarkable example of industrial archaeology, the “Cimatoria Campolmi Leopoldo e C”, symbol-factory of Prato’s manufacturing history. Pecci Centre, enlarged and renewed by Maurice Nio, is a work by the architect Italo Gamberini. It consists of 4000 sqm of exhibition halls, an archive and a specialized library, the auditorium-cinema and an open air theatre.
